Personality
Likes: travel, understanding things, challenges, having fun, storms, things and people that throw him for a loop, puzzles, things that require him to understand concepts instead of remembering details, his family
Dislikes: books, staying put, predictability, skeezy creeps who prey on those who can't defend themselves, math, boxes
Influences: Nan, his crazy childhood, Gideon
Goals: to see the world, understand how it works, and MAYBE find something like his mom has with Gideon
Strengths: Luca is clever, confident, and good at diffusing tense situations with humor or appropriately timed comments. Eh, sometimes, anyhow. He's open-minded and laid-back, hard to ruffle, and rarely loses his temper.
Flaws: Luca doesn't really trust people. He uses humor to keep people from getting too close. He tends to be slightly oblivious to how people's minds work. (It's on his list of things to figure out.) He inherited his mother's restless heart, and has trouble with the idea of stability. He's a little flaky. He tends to forget things like appointments, plans he's made with other people, dates, and details that don't seem important to him. (If he remembers your birthday in time to get you a card, he pretty much worships you. L= )
Habits: raising one eyebrow, flirting with pretty much anything that moves, rubbing the back of his neck when he's nervous
General Personality: Luca's quirky, flirty, and just a little outrageous. He's a TINY bit of a geek, but mostly he just wants to understand everything about the world. Hates math, though. Ugh, math. He's kind of flighty, restless, always moving. He's funny, often unintentionally, and likes to have a good time. And if you weren't paying attention before, most of the rest can be found up above. Or, you know, by talking to him.

Background
General History:
Luca's mom, Casey, was a bit of a wild child, pretty much the human equivalent of a Sotom herself. She was always on the move, a different man (or two) every night and a train to catch in the morning. She got pregnant at age 25 during a tour of Europe (she figures it was somewhere between Romania and Slovenia, though God only knows who else was responsible), and kept up her nomadic lifestyle right up to the time she delivered. Thankfully she was back in the States at the time, and gave her own mother a call. As much as she'd intended to give the kid (who turned out to be twins) up for adoption, the instant she held those beautiful baby boys in her arms, she just couldn't do it. So she called her mom for help, and moved in with the kids. Amazingly enough, her mother didn't even blink at the babies' different skin tones. So maybe there were two daddies...huh. Who knew that could even happen to humans? Tyler's father must have been one of those sexy Mexicans she'd met bungee jumping. And Luca's? Uh...maybe that lovely Greek man, or the Romany with the charming smile. Or...well, the list was rather long. At any rate, her mother was thrilled to have company again, and completely crazy for her grandsons. And Casey stuck with the little family for as long as she could stand, really she did. But...well, the woman had a restless heart and limited tolerance for sleep deprivation. When the boys were about six months old, she hit the road again. And she came back every few months with exotic presents, staying anywhere from three days to six weeks. But their Nan was the one who raised them, who taught them right from wrong, fixed their scraped knees, held Ty during thunderstorms and let Luca play in the rain. It wasn't until the boys were nine that Casey was ready to take them on full time. Well beyond the demanding toddler stage, with full-blown personalities and everything. So the boys went on the road with Mom for a few years.
Ty hated the constant travelling, and missed his Nan and his hometown, all his friends and his school. But Luca had inherited his mother's restless heart, and he thrived on the endless whirl of activity, new places and new faces. It helped that, as she'd gotten older, Casey had eased up on her long line of lovers. Well, a little anyhow. Turns out she wanted more than an endless chain of one-night stands and cheery goodbyes. They started staying in one place for longer stretches of time. Casey started actually dating, for the first time in her life. They lived in apartments, had time to make friends. They even went to school again, their spotty education from traveling enough that they were only a little behind. Luca loved to learn about the world and how it worked, about different cultures, amazing places...stuff that he had learned more about through his mother's frenzied world tour than from sitting in a classroom. But Ty loved the people he met. He was so happy that he could actually get to know people instead of spending just a day or two with them. Which made it all the harder when Casey's latest relationship failed and they picked up and moved again. And boy, could she ever pick 'em. A couple of abusive relationships, a couple of criminals, some stubborn jerks...she'd never really had to worry about that sort of thing before. One night and you're gone meant that she could get with whoever she wanted and not have to worry about whether or not they were decent human beings.
Casey finally realized that things had to change when her latest boyfriend/live-in lover turned out to be a violent pedophile. Leaving out the horrific details, all three of them ended up in the hospital, and the trauma triggered Luca's first shift. Adolescent canine teeth are still sharp, and the boyfriend didn't make it out alive. On shifting back to human, Luca wouldn't speak, couldn't focus, just held himself in a little ball on the floor and rocked until Ty regained consciousness and called 911.
They went back to Nan's house after they all got out of the hospital, back to school and friends and stable lives, and the new addition of family counseling and individual therapy. The police determined that however the boyfriend had been killed (and Luca had no answer), it was self-defense, and no charges were pressed. Casey swore off men for a year or so, until she found an actually decent man. Gideon made them a family, gave the boys a man to look up to (though it took them a while to trust him after the way things had turned out last time), gave them a father for the first time. The wedding announcement was met with genuine excitement from everyone involved, and about a year after their marriage, Elly was born. Luca's crazy about his little sister (and his first father ever), but he still dropped out of school two years later and followed in his mother's nomadic footsteps. Except for the love 'em and leave 'em bit. Therapy or no, he's still kind of inhibited in that direction. And, being the product of one of Casey's many flings, growing up without a father, knowing his father had no idea he even existed...well, it's made him less than inclined to promiscuity. And unlike his mother, he tends to stay in one place for a few months, to better understand it.
Afton Hills is just another stop on Luca's world tour. Or at least that's what he thinks. Thing is, though he doesn't know it, he's looking for something more than the whirlwind of travel and adventure he's lived so far. It's been great, no lie. But...it's kind of unfulfilling. And as much as he hasn't admitted it to himself...well, he wants more. He just doesn't know it yet. Shh, don't tell him, 'kay? It's way more fun if he has to figure it out on his own!
Oh, yeah, Jake! Luca found his buddy Jake wandering around Montana a few months ago. Cute little pup, huh? They've been traveling together ever since. Secretly, Luca loves having someone that sticks by him all the time.
